Winter Holiday Décor

I know it’s a bit early for some, but if you’re looking to update your décor for the holidays this year I’ve found some great picks and NOW is the time!

Every year, I try to update one holiday item with something really nice quality that I can use long term. I look at it as an investment. A few years ago, we did a faux tree. I invested in nice stockings years ago when my kids were babies and we still use them. This year, I’m looking at a nice faux garland. I’ve always used live garland in the past, but after it dried out really fast last year (in case you don’t know, Colorado is super dry) and looked awful by Christmas, I’m going to invest in a faux choice this year. Hopefully, it will be one I can use for years to come.

I’m always looking for something just a little different than the normal, but still traditional in style. I particularly love a magnolia leaf garland and wreath, not only because it reminds me of the south, but I also really love the two toned leaves. The gold-brown on one side and dark, earthy green on the other gives it that extra character.

I chose some wreaths (below) that are very plain in style because it’s easy to give them a different look every year by adding just a small detail, such as a flower, berry, bow or sash.

Pro tip: When I’m looking for garland and wreaths that are more traditional greenery, I go for something that is very full vs more sparse. It looks more expensive even if it isn’t and makes a bigger impact. Yes, bigger is better!

I also tend to stay away from discount stores for décor unless it’s a trendy item. Even though I love Target, I do not buy holiday décor there. When I’ve done it in the past, it’s only lasted a couple years.

Favorite Holiday Décor Retailers:

Balsam Hill (pricey, but very good quality. your purchase will last a long time)

Frontgate (great quality, shop early for sales)

Ballard Designs (limited selection, but unique and good quality)

Anthropologie (very unique items, colorful and trendy)

Terrain (earthy decor, as my daughter and I call it “crunchy” you know like granola)

Amazon (basics and small items that I don’t want to spend a lot on)

Affiliate Links - This means that I make a very tiny % commission when you click and purchase through these links at no additional cost to you. This is the only way I can recommend these amazing products and keep my blog going.

Aside from garland and wreaths, candles and bells and snowglobes are also essential for making your home feel like a holiday wonderland. I also found these amazing garland ties! Who doesn’t need these for attaching garland to a staircase? Last year, I put up live garland above my front door, but really struggled with keeping it in place when the wind blew. (Colorado can get very windy!) Anywho, I found this garland holder on Amazon and a more attractive one below at Frontgate.

Of course, we can’t forget about trimming the tree! Every year, we try to add a few fun ornaments in additional to our traditional ones we’ve always used. I’ve found some fun, whimsical ornaments and tree skirts. If you’ve been following me on socials or keeping up with the blog, you probably know I love orchids! Isn’t the glass orchid ornament (below) gorgeous? I added the fun strawberry felt ornament because my daughter loves strawberry everything. I also found some affordable tree skirt/collar options.

Do you entertain during the holidays? If so, add something fun this year like some party hats or crackers or a whimsical accessory! I found a mix of traditional party essentials as well as some fun additions for your holiday celebrations.
